The Zone 13 Nigeria Police Headquarters at Ukpo, near Awka in Anambra State, was this morning attacked by some gunmen, killing at two policemen.
They razed some offices and scores of vehicles during the attack but were prevented from gaining entrance into the armory. The deceased officers have been identified as Inspector Ishaku Aura and Uzoma Uwaebuka.
This is coming days after the April 5 attack on the police headquarters and the correctional centre in Owerri, Imo State, where 38 vehicles were burnt and about 1,844 inmates freed.
This incident is the latest in what appears to be a growing trend of attacks against security personnel in the South-East region of Nigeria.
