VIDEO: Durham Police North Carolina confirms investigation towards shootings at The Streets at Southpoint, 6910 Fayetteville Road and at Southpoint Mall

According to TMZ, shoppers were at Southpoint Mall in Durham, NC during their casual Black Friday shopping when an argument started between two groups of people who knew each other, which resulted in gun fire inside the mall. Three people were injured including a 10 year-old who was shot by a ricochet bullet. (Read More Here).

DPD is investigating a shooting incident at The Streets at Southpoint. The mall is being evacuated and will be closed while DPD investigates the incident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. There is no further threat at the mall.

Statement from Durham Police North Carolina reads:

"The child was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other two people also have non-life threatening injuries. There is currently one person in custody for the shooting. Police is still investigating.

"Durham police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday afternoon at The Streets at Southpoint, 6910 Fayetteville Road. Three people were shot, and three other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries that were not gunshot wounds.   

"The shooting was reported at 3:23 p.m. on the second floor of the mall. Off-duty Durham police officers working at the mall heard shots fired and requested assistance. The mall was completely locked down and officers located three people who had been shot. One of the shooting victims was a 10-year-old who suffered a bullet ricochet injury. The juvenile’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

"It did not appear to be a random incident, according to investigators. Officers have detained one person at this time.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Justice at (919) 560-4440, ext. 29119 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

"Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews thanked the DPD officers, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Durham County Emergency Management, the Durham Fire Department, Durham County EMS and the security team and management at The Streets at Southpoint for their assistance at this incident.
This is an active investigation and no further details are available at this time."
