Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Ugandan investigative journalist, Canary Mugume, has won an outstanding award for his story, "Teenagers in Kasese exchanging sex for sanitary pads." (Read More Here).

Recall that 5 months ago, Canary, shared a video on YouTube, revealing what teenage girls pass through in Kasese District, all because of sanitary pads, which they can't afford due to poverty.

From the story, hundreds of teenage girls get pregnant and most times they practice self abortion methods. They get pregnant after offering themselves to men (either their boyfriends or random men) after buying pads for them.

Lucy, a victim of "sex for pads", is a 15-year-old mother of three, who had dreams of becoming a singer. Unfortunately, she feels her dreams have been shattered after having three children.

According to the narrator, Canary, Lucy isn't her real name. After getting pregnant, Lucy's family rejected her and drove her out of the house. According to Lucy, she says she regretted not knowing how to carry an abortion.

She says:

"I regret not knowing about family planning when I am still young." According to reports, over 7,319 teenagers got pregnant in 2020 in Kasese District and over 115 of the teenagers were below 15.

Carrying on, Sarah, happens to be another victim of "Teenagers in Kasese exchanging sex for sanitary pads." Sara offered herself to her boyfriend after he had bought a packet of sanitary pad for her.

According to Canary, Sara, carried out her abortion herself by using local herbs. Now, Sara is regretting for carrying out the abortion as she's worried of infections and damages the abortion might have on her in future.
