It was gathered that on Friday, a lady took to her Twitter page to report a Bolt driver who allegedly sexually harassed and raped her. Her statement caused serious stirs in South Africa.

Bolt's regional manager for SADC, Gareth Taylor, said in a statement on Tuesday:

"Bolt is aware of the incident in which a young woman suffered a terribly traumatic experience in Cosmo City. We have engaged with her several times, and we are fully cooperating with the Honeydew police station in their investigation into the incident, as this is where she has opened a case.

"Bolt condemns any form of sexual harassment or violence of any kind directed towards e-hailing passengers because it believes that every South African has the right to move around without risk of harm, intimidation or coercion, or fear of harassment, injury, or death."

Since then, over 50,000 petitions have been signed. Information has it that Bolt has suspended its driver who was accused of rape.

The statement for the Change Petition reads:

"Many South African women have been sexually assualted by Bolt South Africa drivers. As a result of Bolt South Africa's inaction, a petition is launched in response thereto.

"We remain cognizant of Bolt South Africa's attempt to minimize these sexual assault cases by initiating the "Women Only" service. However, this has clearly proved to be ineffective. Therefore, this petition is launched to request of Bolt South Africa to verify and vet their drivers more efficiently so that accountability and transperency is encouraged.

"By signing this, you will be saving many Bolt South Africa customers from trauma (derived from these sexual assault and harassment cases) and grant them relief of safety concerns.

"In order to defeat gender based violence, there needs to be redress on such issues with prompt as lives depend on it.
