The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader recently explained that after negotiation with Ruto, he was promised the post of a Deputy Chief Minister adding that MCC Party was also promised a slot in Ruto’s cabinet, particularly the ministry of Infrastructure.

"I have known Dr. Ruto from the time of Kibaki's government. I have always found him to be a focused man, forthright, brilliant, super active and overall a wonderful and pleasant man...he offered me the Deputy Chief Minister position with a ministerial portfolio in Infrastructure Development," Mutua explained.

For avoidance of doubt, I wish to clarify that at this particular time, I am not running for any elective position in the forthcoming elections. I am concentrating on campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza coalition so that Kenya can get a new system where dreams can come true," Mutua explained.

Reports on Mutua's running for a political seat emerged after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) released the names of contestants seeking elective seats in August.

The list indicated that Alfred Nganga Mutua had presented his papers to the electoral commission as a contestant for the Mwala parliamentary seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket.

This means that he would face off with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament, Vincent Musyoka alias Kawaya.

Kawaya has been an ardent supporter of Ruto and has led a number of his campaigns in the Ukambani region.

In response to the reports, Mutua told this writer that he is not eyeing any seat in the August 9, elections.

"Fake news. I am not vying for any seat," Mutua said when asked to clarify the reports.

Critics from the Azimio coalition have scoffed at the pact saying the two cannot deliver such a high vote but Mudavadi has insisted that the two will deliver a massive 90 percent of the total votes.

“Wetang’ula and I have consolidated Western Kenya, 70 percent is too little, we will garner 90 percent,” he said during a Kiambu county’s UDA economic forum held in Limuru.

Other senate aspirants that Ford Kenya listed were Kakamega’s Joy Mukite, Busia’s Moses Oguta Wanyama, Garissa’s Shalle Mohammed Issack, Nyamira’s Kennedy Okongo, Tana River’s Mohamed Jire Siyat, Kericho’s Racheal Cherotich Ngéno and Machakos’s Celestina Mutavi Mbasi for the Senate contest.

Another surprise entry in the IEBC list is Dr Jalang’o Midiwo of ODM, who has been listed as the party’s aspirant in Gem constituency.

Incumbent Elisha Odhiambo has a Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) ruling that directed ODM to give him a direct ticket after he beat Dr Midiwo in the disputed nominations.
