Brazilians remember Brazilian politician, Marielle Franco, on her posthumous 43rd birthday today

TodayinHERstory1979: Marielle Franco was born. She was a politician, feminist, human rights activist, & critic of police brutality. She ran as a black bisexual woman and single mother from the slums. She was assassinated in 2018 at 38 years old. 

July 27 1979 - Birth of Marielle Franco, Rio de Janeiro Councillor, socialist activist, campaigner for "poor black women and people from the favelas" who was assassinated after speaking out against police violence. 

UN WOMEN wrote: "Today we remember Marielle Franco, born #OnThisDay.

"She was a Brazilian politician, feminist & human rights activist who spoke out for minorities in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, and was assassinated in 2018.

"As her courage continues to inspire us, she will always be with us."
