“Dahmer” became the most-watched series on Netflix last week, but an updated tag under its description left people outraged, saying they didn’t think that using the LGBTQ tag was appropriate by any means.
The show is centered around the real-life events that occurred between 1978 and 1991 when Dahmer murdered 17 men and young boys, many of whom were young queer guys of color. And despite its well-received reviews from critics and viewers, some fans were clearly not happy with Netflix thinking it was okay to place the show under its “LGBTQ” section, which sparked a huge backlash on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.
“No way they put an LGBTQ tag on the new Dahmer series like PLEASE,” one of the viral tweets on Twitter read. Another person added, “If I need to stay in my lane absolutely tell me but anyone else think it’s pretty gross of Netflix to list Dahmer under LGBTQ, especially when the True Crime tag would have worked?” Netflix quietly made the change this week, but the firm has yet to issue a statement regarding the mishap.
