Malacañang has yet to release Soriano’s appointment papers or clarify his job description under the post.

Soriano supported Marcos’ 2022 electoral campaign with his wife, actress Toni Gonzaga. He also directed the President’s first State of the Nation Address and consulted in his inauguration.

The President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos are the Soriano couple’s godparents at their wedding.

The Office of the Press Secretary said Soriano is set to take his oath on Monday afternoon before Marcos himself.

Soriano is a popular television and movie director who was at the helm of Marcos’ ads in the 2022 campaign. He also directed Marcos’ first State of the Nation Address.

His ties to Marcos go beyond the professional – he is related to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Both President Marcos and the First Lady were wedding sponsors or godparents to Soriano and his wife, TV personality and YouTuber Toni Gonzaga. Gonzaga was also among Marcos’ top celebrity endorsers in 2022.

In a news release, the Palace said Soriano agreed to receive P1 as his annual salary.

“Soriano is tasked to advise the Chief Executive and assist departments and agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, on matters that will enhance their information dissemination programs and initiatives,” the Palace said.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has named film director Paul Soriano as his presidential adviser on creative communications.

The Office of the Press Secretary officer-in-charge Usec. Cheloy Garafil on Monda announced Soriano’s appointment. He will take his oath later in the day.

“Confirmed. [Soriano] will take his oath later,” Garafil told reporters in a text message when asked to confirm Soriano’s appointment.
