As previously reported, the clan arrived outside the arena following the news that Kyrie Irving’s suspension from the NBA had been lifted after his countless apologies for sharing a link to the film, “From Hebrews to Negroes,” which the Jewish community deemed “anti-semitic.”
After catching the video on Twitter, Jaylen wasted no time to quote-retweet the post, along with the word, “Energy.” Well, it wasn’t long before the athlete would return to the social media platform to clear up a misunderstanding. Jaylen says he had mistaken the group for the African-American fraternity Omega Psi Phi as he followed up with photos of the frat to show the resemblance in both of their outfits. Supporting the video could be seen as problematic since Black Hebrew Israelites believe that they are the real “Children of Israel” — not Jewish people.
“I was not aware of what specific group that was outside of Barclay’s Center tonight,” he stressed. “I was celebrating the unification of our people welcoming the return of Kyrie to the court, first glance I thought it was a known fraternity the (C/Que’s) Omega psi phi (step’n) showing support.” Jaylen had previously denounced the NBA’s decision to suspend Kyrie by calling the move “alarming,” particularly after Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai said last week that Kyrie still had “work to do” before he could return to the team.
