A 12-year-old girl died after ingesting an abortive tea, in Maranhão state. However, a medical report made after her death confirmed that she was not pregnant.

The case was registered in the rural area of Joselândia city. According to Civil Police investigations, the girl's mother believed she was weeks pregnant. She took the girl to a supposed healer for herbal tea and medicine.

The child, identified as Wilkelly Flaviane Carvalho, felt unwell and was taken to a hospital, but died.

The doctors called the police so that the child's mother and the healer could give testimony. The two were arrested.

The identity of the two was not revealed. The crime took place at the end of November, but the Civil Police of Maranhão confirmed this week that a medical report confirmed that the child was not pregnant.
