An original animated series following the next earth Avatar in the cycle after Aang and Korra is coming in 2025 from Paramount and Avatar Studios

An original animated series following the next earth Avatar in the cycle after Aang and Korra is coming in 2025 from Paramount and Avatar Studios.

Avatar Studios is working on the next Avatar after Aang and Korra. An original animated streaming series set in the future after The Legend of Korra, following the next earth Avatar in the cycle, is coming to Paramount+ in 2025.

But there’s more. An animated movie featuring this Avatar and their era is coming to theaters in the years after the show comes out. (I can’t reveal more specific dates yet, but it won’t be an insanely long wait.)

Currently we don’t know how far in the future this Avatar’s era will be set, but a very rough approximation based on previous Avatars is that if it’s set ~100 years after Korra’s time, it will be in the Avatar world’s equivalent of our world’s present day.

2025 is going to be a HUGE launch year for Avatar Studios’ animated universe, with the adult Aang movie coming to theaters on October 10th, 2025, as well as this new series streaming in the same year. This isn’t a mistake on my part, they’re intentionally releasing both in the same year– part of a much bigger plan. Currently it’s implied that the movie is Avatar Studios’ first project of any kind, which would imply that this series would come out after that, at the very end of the year, likely in November or December 2025. There could, of course, be delays, but they’re absolutely working on multiple projects in parallel right now.

This is the second Avatar original streaming series coming soon, with the live-action young Aang series premiering next year in 2023. Season 2 of live-action ATLA can be estimated for two years later in 2025 as well, joining the adult Gaang animated movie and next earth Avatar animated series to form the biggest year of Avatar EVER.

The first of these will be an animated theatrical film that will focus on the “Gaang” in their adult years, the “Gaang” being the original Team Avatar in The Last Airbender. It consists of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Toph, Suki, Momo, and Appa. The film is expected to be released on October 10, 2025.

Unrelated to Avatar Studios, Netflix is also working on its own live-action remake of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which is expected to premiere sometime next year.

Avatar News also currently has no information regarding how far in the future the new Avatar series will be set. However, the outlet does have an interesting tidbit regarding the show's potential setting: "[A] very rough approximation based on previous Avatars is that if it's set ~100 years after Korra's time, it will be in the Avatar world's equivalent of our world's present day."

Notably, in addition to the supposed new series, the very first animated Avatar feature film, which focuses on grown-up versions of Aang and his friends, is currently scheduled to release in 2025 -- Oct. 10, 2025, to be exact. According to Avatar News, this is no accident: "[T]hey're intentionally releasing both in the same year-- part of a much bigger plan." Seeing as how the first movie is also believed to be newly-formed Avatar Studios' very first project, the outlet postulates that the new series will bow in either November or December 2025, barring a potential delay. At any rate, however, "they're absolutely working on multiple projects in parallel right now."

All of that being said, this report should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being. Avatar News has proven to be a reliable source of information for all things Avatar, though while the outlet's track record is solid, it's not quite spotless. On one hand, Avatar News correctly reported various casting developments for Netflix's upcoming live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series well before they were officially announced.

Meanwhile, Avatar Studios announced earlier this year that it was developing three theatrical animated films set within the Avatar universe. Avatar News initially reported that the first of these films would be a prequel to the original series focusing on the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar known as Kyoshi. The outlet also reported that the second film would focus on Zuko, while the third would take place during the Legend of Korra era. However, Avatar Studios later announced that, as previously mentioned, its first movie would actually be a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, rejoining Aang and company sometime after the events of the original series. It is also unconfirmed when the series itself will take place in the greater Avatar timeline. The Legend of Korra took place 70b years following the conclusion of the original series, so it is very possible that this series will take place at a similar point in the future, give or take a few decades. This would put the era of the next Avatar series relatively close to our own time, as the Legend of Korra is intended to be equivalent to the 1920s.

Avatar Studios is a production company announced by Paramount+ back on Frbuyeary 21, 2021, and co-launched by Nickelodeon with Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, the original creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender. They both serve as co-chief creative officers for the studio, with the goal of procuring the larger AVatar universe in the form of new animated content, such as shows, movies, and spin-offs.
