As the saying goes, what’s old can become new again. And in the case of singer Ashanti and rapper Nelly, fans are hoping that the two will give their romance another shot. Ashanti and Nelly were considered one of hip-hop’s power couples during their relationship.
Unfortunately, things between the couple fizzled out, and Ashanti and Nelly went their separate ways. However, fans believe that the pair may be giving their relationship another shot. After all, they were seen being cordial with each other at Fat Joe and Ja Rule’s September 2021 Verzuz Battle and recently performed together at Oakland Arena in August 2022. So, what gives? Are Ashanti and Nelly rekindling their romance? Before we get to the tea, let’s explore their relationship timeline.
The pair ended their decade-long romance in 2014 and some fans never got over it, hoping they would one day give love another shot. The duo rocked the stage with their 2008 smash hit, “Body On Me,” but Nelly’s reactions to Ashanti dancing on him ensured he went viral.
Fans are mostly talking about one specific clip from their performance last week that shows Ashanti grinding Nelly, leaving the crowd hooting and howling.
Clad in a pink bodysuit paired with thigh-high boots, the singer had her hair fashioned in a high pony while her ex was seen in an all-white outfit.
The original 2009 song, Body on Me, also featured Akon. Clad in a magenta bodysuit and matching thigh-high boots, Ashanti flaunted her perfect figure while serenading Nelly. At one point, the Grammy Award-winning singer got low, grinding on her ex as they performed for the crowd. His facial expressions said it all, and Nelly soon began trending on Twitter after clips of their intimate performance surfaced online.
Nelly and Ashanti’s recent onstage chemistry had fans calling for a reconciliation after the former couple reunited for Power 98.3 and Power 96.1‘s “Under The Mistletoe” concert last weekend.
“The toxic in me is LIVING for this. Sis knew [exactly] what she was doing. Grind on that n***a sis and make him remember who his best was!! @Nelly_Mo @ashanti,” InfamousRIOT joked.
“I know all of Nelly and Ashanti’s exes feel some type of way about how much chemistry they still have. They were never over each other. It be like that sometimes lol,” said YeahJu.
It all started at a press conference for the 2003 Grammy Awards.
According to HITC, Ashanti and Nelly first met each other there and made a connection.
“The first time I met Nelly he asked me for my autograph, but I think he was being sarcastic and I remember writing it down on the program,” Ashanti said in VH1’s Behind the Music special, via the Rap-Up. “That picture has been in so many publications as something else, but it all started out as a joke. For the record, it took him a long time to get my number.”
