Sam Smith and Kim Petras have won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The duo was recognized for the song “Unholy,” which was later included on Smith’s 2023 album, Gloria. They beat out other nominees including ABBA (“Don’t Shut Me Down”), Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran (“Bam Bam”), Coldplay and BTS (“My Universe”), and Post Malone and Doja Cat (“I Like You (A Happier Song)”).
During the acceptance speech, Smith let their collaborator take the microphone. Petras—the first transgender woman to win this award—paid tribute to the late artist Sophie for inspiring her, as well as her mother for her lifelong support.
Gloria is Smith’s fourth studio album, following 2020’s Love Goes. Along with “Unholy,” they released three other singles in the buildup to the album: “Love Me More,” “Gimme” and “I’m Not Here to Make Friends.” Petras’ latest album, Turn Off the Light, was released in 2019.
This year the crowd is all geared up and has glued their eyes on the bull, and we for sure know it's going to be a tough call to make for selecting that one winner from the nominations of those who have been pioneers in the music industry. As it is difficult to pick one, here are our guesses on the winner for the top categories.

Doja Cat's famous hit "Woman," which delivered a classic hit to "About Damn Time" by Lizzo, will not deter you from moving on to its beats and "As It Was" by Harry Styles, which has taken over social media like the airwaves is one of the most difficult decisions to make as these legendary artists have produced classic and monumental hits that have left a mark in the hearts of audiences.
Jazz singer Samara Joy won best new artist, shrugging off challenges by such acts as Wet Led, Anitta and Maneskin. The New Yorker was virtually in tears when she collected the award and noted that her little brother was her date. “I’m so, so grateful. Thank you.” She has released two albums as a lead artist and also won the Grammy for best jazz vocal album earlier in the night.
Beyoncé missed being in the room when she tied Solti’s record, which stood since 1997. Host Trevor Noah said she was on her way to the ceremony but blamed Los Angeles traffic for not being in person to accept it. The song was written by several writers including Beyonce, The-Dream, Nile Rodgers and Raphael Saadiq.
Once Beyoncé — the night’s leading nominee — finally arrived, Noah presented her with the best R&B song award at her table.
