Terengganu has banned “Pulau” from being screened in the state, says the horror film’s producer Fred Chong

Terengganu has banned “Pulau” from being screened in the state, says the horror film’s producer Fred Chong.

He intends to meet with the state’s officials next week to review the ban.

He’s concerned that the ban would influence more states to do the same. Chong also plans to show “Pulau” to the representatives of the Terengganu state government.

He says the “Pulau” trailer does not fully depict the storyline of the movie, and that he agreed to cut four scenes that were deemed inappropriate.

The producer also reveals that due to the controversy of the trailer last month, sponsors have withdrawn almost RM500,000 for the project.

Chong says RM4 million was spent on the production of the film, and they’re left with no budget to promote it.

Chong also denies that the trailer was posted on YouTube as a marketing strategy, saying it was aimed at overseas markets.

He says those who criticised “Pulau” should give it a chance, and to at least think of the efforts by the cast and crew in making the film.

“Kita bangga apabila Michelle Yeoh diangkat sebagai Pelakon Wanita Terbaik Komedi/Muzikal, Anugerah Golden Globe baru-baru ini.

“Tetapi, filem tempatan pula diketepikan di negara sendiri sebelum terlebih dahulu ditonton,” Chong says.
