It’s now official, Port Harcourt born aspiring Nigerian musician – Mercy Chinwo has won the coveted title of the hit reality show – Nigerian Idol. On Sunday 8th April 2012, Lagos residents stayed glued to their TV sets eagerly waiting to see which of the last 2 Nigerian Idol contestants – Joe Blue and Mercy Chinwo, will win the second season of the hit show.
The D-Day was truly a night of glitz and glamour as some of the biggest names in entertainment came out for the finale show in full force. The show kicked off with a grand performance of Black Eyed Peas “I Got A Feeling” by the 10 evicted contestants. Thereafter, Pakurumo crooner Wizkid came on stage to electrify the audience with some of his hit tracks.
The finalists – Joe Blue and Mercy Chinwo got everyone jumping for joy when they performed a duet of the all time classic Taxi Driver by Bobby Benson, then Nigerian Idol season 1 winner – Yeka Onka came on stage to perform her single “Follow Me” after which Mr Incredible himself got every one on thier feet as he performed his hit track “African Rapper”.
Just before the moment of truth, the finalists got on the Nigerian Idol stage for last time to perform one of their greatest performances on the show. Joe Blue performed Olori Oko by Infinity and Mercy paid great homage to Fela Kuti by performing her own rendition of his hit track “Zombie”.
On Saturday, August 13, Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo walked down the aisle with her heartthrob Pastor Blessed and became the leading topic across social media platforms. As people took in the sights and sounds from the various occasions, throwback photos of the singer has surfaced online.
One of the videos captured the moment Chinwo and her man were asked to exchange kisses after they were officially pronounced husband and wife. Well, after church activities were concluded, the party doors were thrown open and many joined the newlyweds for their wedding reception. A video from the event showed the new husband and wife gracing the dance floor as their friends and family made money rain on them. In her usual fashion, Chinwo didn’t hold back from showing off her impressive moves on the dance floor.
