Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Philadelphia sports treasure, Ted Silary, confirmed dead as his cause of death is unknown. (Read More Here).

Taking to social media, Pat, announced that Ted Silary has died at the age of 72.

Pat wrote: "I am sad to pass word that Ted Silary, a great friend to many, has passed at 72. I owe my career to him. I strongly believe to no one anywhere, at any time, covered high school sports better than Ted. (1 of 2)."

Penn Charter Athletics & our entire community mourn the loss of Ted Silary Opc'69, friend, colleague, father, son, husband and all around great guy. Ted had a soft spot for the underdog and work tirelessly to cover all of Philadelphia HS sports. He will be missed. RIP Ted.

It was a gift to Philadelphia sports, to the city as a whole. A labor of love, and that labor — there’s no guesstimate on hours spent. If you had a question about Philadelphia high school football or basketball, there was no question where you searched for the answer, and little question you’d find it.

The big question: How long would it take to find it? Not because TedSilary.com, begun in 1999, made that hard; a simple Google search usually sent you to the exact sentence.

"It probably felt even worse the second time around," Moore said. "It was rumor after rumor after rumor for 2 years, and every parent, student and faculty member had to hear them. It got really upsetting.

"I didn't think this would happen. I thought enough people would realize there's a need for West in the community and that a successful effort would be made to keep it open."

The Burrs, a member since the Catholic League's inception (1919-20 season), played their final game Sunday, falling at Bishop McDevitt, 55-50.
