Taylor Lautner on the release of ‘Speak Now’ (Taylor Swift’s Version): "I feel safe, Praying for John Mayer"

Taylor Lautner on the release of ‘Speak Now’ (Taylor's Version):

“I think it's a great album. Yeah, I feel safe, Praying for John.”

But the Twilight alum—who is the subject of the heartfelt breakup song "Back to December"—can't say the same for Swift's long list of ex-lovers.

"I think it's a great album," Lautner, who dated Swift for a few months in 2009, told TODAY.com May 16. "Yeah, I feel safe. Praying for John."

And that would be John Mayer, who may have done something bad to inspire "Dear John" off Speak Now.

The singers were linked in 2009 and 2010 after collaborating on Mayer's song "Half of My Heart." At the time, Swift told Elle she was "really excited" to team up with Grammy winner, and had "been such a big fan of John for such a long time."

Earlier this month, Swift announced she would be releasing a re-recorded version of Speak Now while performing in Nashville for The Eras Tour May 5.

"I think rather than me speaking about it," Swift told the crowd. "I thought I would show you," before the cover art for the upcoming Speak Now (Taylor's Version) flashed across screens at the Nissan Stadium, sending fans into a frenzy.

She shared the new album will be released on July 7 and contain 22 tracks, including six previously unreleased songs from the vault, which could potentially include more references to her relationships with Lautner and Mayer.

As the release date for Taylor Swift's third re-recorded album, "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," looms this summer, there's one man with romantic ties to the singer who feels confident about revisiting the era ahead of the drop: Taylor Lautner.

Lautner, 31, laughs when TODAY.com asks about how he's feeling with less than two months before he, along with millions of Swifties, are set to revisit 2009 and 2010.

At the time, "Twilight," the book-to-movie franchise that launched Lautner's career, was at its peak. Lautner, too, was in the spotlight for his personal life: After dating Swift, he was said to be the subject of the tender breakup song "Back to December" on Swift's "Speak Now."

"I think it's a great album. Yeah, I feel safe," he tells TODAY.com. "Praying for John."
