After the announcement, there were postings to the university's online community forumabout the past activities of Hwang Soyoon, the main vocalist and leader of Se SoNeon. In 2020, Hwang posted an article on her SNS account in support of the victims of the Nth room.
The article she posted included one sentence that could be seen as misandry in that it suggested all men were potential criminals (for those that don't know, the nth room involved over 260K men who viewed content of abused girls and women).
Additionally, she posted a photo in support of Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination group. As the uni campus is near Hyehwa Station, Line 4, where the SADD group protests, students who experienced difficulty commuting to school complained.
(SADD is protesting the lack of subway access for disabled or otherly abled Korean citizens. The city has promised to make changes to make the subway lines more accessible but have not fulfilled those promises).
One student said that he didn't know why his tuition should go to a person who hates men. A senior posted wondered who the festival was for and the student council shouldn't invite bands that encourage gender conflicts.
It is also known that Se SoNeon is friendly with Yoo Ah-in (who is under investigation for drug use). Yoo Ah-in appeared in a 2021 MV of Se SoNeon's Students in support of Se SoNeon's invite say that the only criteria for singers should be singing well and that SSN is a talented band, that no one is protesting Psi's invite who used weed in 2001 and was fined 5 M.
An official from the uni said that the invite came from the student council and not the school so the uni had no comment and that their understanding is that the band will play in the festival.
