The suspect shouted “in the name of Jesus Christ” in English before stabbing young children.
Footage of the attack shows the refugee running around the playground before stabbing a toddler in its pram as its mother screamed.
The suspect was chased around the park by locals before being shot by police.
He is now in custody. Abdalmash H, identified as the asylum Syrian refugee who was seen running and stabbing children and women in park in France.
The knifeman was identified by the French Interior Ministry as Abdalmash H, aged 32.
“He arrived in France in 2022, and had refugee status,” said a spokesman. Syrian refugee, Abdalmasih Hanoun, shouted 'in the name of Jesus Christ' while running to stab children and women at park playground in France.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said: “The man was shouting in English, and caused absolute panic when he started attacking the little ones.
“He wanted to hurt as many people as he could. He caused carnage. The young children were just easy targets.”
Another eyewitness described how they saw a man attacking younger children who were playing in the playground.
Regional deputy Antoine Armand described the attack as “abominable”, with French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne currently on her way to the scene.

The attacker, identified as Abdalmash, 31, clinched onto a necklace with a crucifix on it before he launched his 'abominable' rampage in a lakeside park in the town of Annecy, a tourist hotspot in southeastern France, at around 9.45am.

The suspect, identified as Abdalmash H, was subdued at the scene and arrested.
Further dramatic footage shows the attacker, a Syrian refugee who has declared himself a Christian, later being chased across the park by locals and cops before he was shot by a police officer and pinned to the ground.
Horrified witnesses say mothers ran past them screaming 'run, run' in the aftermath of the frenzied attack, which President Emmanuel Macron has condemned as 'absolute cowardice'.
Four children aged between 22 months and three - including a British girl - and an adult were seriously injured in the attack. Two of the young victims and the adult are now in a life-threatening condition at a nearby hospital.
Witnesses said the knifeman had begun attacking the preschool children while they were playing at a small playground in a scene of utter 'carnage'. They said he had launched his onslaught on the toddlers because they were 'easy targets'.
