Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that American International School of Abuja to forward £760K (£760,910) as pay back for Yahaya Bello children's school fees following EFCC statement.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has requested the American International School, Abuja, to refund the sum of $845,000 allegedly paid by former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello for his son who is a student of the prestigious school.

Chairman of the anti-corruption agency, Ola Olukoyede, at a press briefing on Tuesday, had revealed how the embattled former governor had withdrawn $720,000 from the state’s coffers to pay his child’s school fees.

Bello is alleged to have signed a contract with the school to prepay $845,000 till 2034 for his eldest son identified as Ali Bello.

But with the discovery of the alleged financial crime committed by the ex-governor and with the EFCC intensifying its investigations, the agency has asked the school to refund the money with immediate effect.

“I assumed office here, I didn’t initiate the case, I inherited the case file, I called for the case file, I called for the report, and I said look there are issues here,” Olukoyede said.

“I put a call across to him which ordinarily am not supposed to do, just to honour him as an immediate past governor, but he said ‘Can’t they come to my village?”

Bello’s media officer Michael Ohiare said in a statement earlier on Tuesday that the EFCC never invited the former Kogi governor for questioning.

“We challenge the EFCC to produce a copy of this invitation, including the delivery date and the recipient’s name/endorsement. We are confident they cannot provide this simple evidence,” he said.
