The rains caused the death of 100 people and left more than 120 missing until early Wednesday afternoon. Part of Porto Alegre was submerged. The city's airport and bus station are not operating. Unstable weather conditions are expected to remain until the weekend.
Many organizations are rescuing animals in the state . In the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, in flooded neighborhoods, volunteers look for animals abandoned during floods.
There are 230.4 thousand people away from home. Of this total, 66.7 thousand are in shelters and 163.7 thousand are homeless (people staying with family or friends).
With the arrival of a cold front, the situation could become more serious . From this Wednesday (8) rain with volumes above 100 millimeters is expected for some cities, a drop in temperature and winds of up to 100 km/h.
