16-year-old Kerala schoolgirl, Devananda, dies after having rotten shawarma from snacks bar at Cheruvathur in Kasaragod district

16-year-old schoolgirl died and around 30 others fell sick after allegedly having rotten shawarma from a snacks bar at Cheruvathur in Kasaragod district. (Read More Here).

The deceased has been identified as Devananda, the only child of EV Prasanna of Karivellur-Peralam grama panchayat in Kannur district. Her ailing father Narayanan died five months ago, said Perlam ward member PV Rameshan.

The condition of Devananda started deteriorating and around 1.30 pm, she collapsed.

"She was shifted to the District Hospital in an ambulance with IV line and oxygen," said Dr Ramdas.

She died soon after. The DMO then asked all the patients being treated for food poisoning to the District Hospital. They had low blood pressure, fever, loose stools and stomach ache.

After the initial 15 students, 15 other customers of Ideal got admitted to the district hospital with symptoms of food poisoning.

"All of them are stable now. But we are observing them," Dr Ramdas said.

More doctors, including paediatricians, and staff were posted at Cheruvathur CHC to attend to cases of food poisoning, if the need arises, said the DMO.

An examination by the health department found that the people who ate the shawarma were suffering from physical ailments. Cheruvathur panchayat president C Krishnan said that the cool bar was closed. Prameela said. Prameela said other shops would also be inspected. Food samples were collected from the store.

The Ideal Cool Bar in Cheruvathur was closed by the health department. Fearing public outcry, Coolbar was placed under police guard. There were stones against the coolbar.

This cool bar is located near the Cheruvathur bus stand. After the tuition class, a group of children came to Coolbar. The children were admitted to various hospitals in the evening. The sample was sent for testing to see if the meat used in the shawarma was stale.

Meanwhile, Minister MV Govindan checked out the trainees undertaking therapy at the medical facility and said the federal government will ensure that high quality food is offered in resorts across the state.

“The government will certainly perform assessments across the state to guarantee that the food offered at dining establishments is of good quality,” the preacher said.

According to sources, the juice store was located near a Tuition centre.
